In one district of town there is an abundance of resale shops and clothiers, each vying for attention. Better than a sign in this second floor window is a bright yellow dress that has become a focal point in the area. One that everyone looks for when passing by. Alas, the shop has closed and the dress is gone, with the exception of this painting, done plein air on location.
I have been using oil paint to create various scenes and portraits for over 30 years. I still marvel at how colors and shapes form visually appealing paintings. I have traveled from regular brushes to more textured surfaces using a palette knife, and currently am using looser, more sweeping brush strokes. A variety of the above can be seen in the images displayed. One would think by now I would have settled on a method that was consistent, but I enjoy trying new things and even experimenting a bit. Some of those 'experiments' never make it to these pages. Being self-taught alludes to the 'experimenting' portion of my artistic journey with paintings across the nation in homes and business. You know Stephen I love this painting. It makes me wonder all sorts of things and seems to tell a story in my mind. I like the way the dress is colorful and displayed in this window, like a shop window.. great piece!
